Cons: You get what you pay for. There are cheaper brands but nowhere near as good.
The Bottom Line: Your getting a really safe, comfortable chair for your baby. It is easy to clean up, easy to move, and comes with enough extras to make most parents happy.
zlmajors's Full Review: Baby Trend Breckenridge Highchair 8878
If your a reviewer like me or even a frequenter of Epinions then most likely you research the items you are looking at. Especially if they cost more than fifty bucks. Even more so if they are for your children.
Thats what led me to the Baby Trend Breckenridge Highchair. So lets dispense with the formalities and get down to the review!
COMFORT: A+
Lets face it, if your kid is like mine, she/he won't sit in anything that is uncomfortable. The Breckenridge is nicely padded so that it almost surrounds your child. If I could only get a chair to do that for me.
SAFETY: A
After you work out the comfort issue, you also must have a safe highchair. The Breckenridge also fulfills this very nicely. Now my baby is almost 7 months old and she weighs in about 20 pounds, definently in the upper percentage for her age, keeping that in mind the highchair is perfect for her. The chair comes with a 5-POINT HARNESS!! Not something standard on a lot of highchairs. But as any parent with a grappling baby, one that loves to try to grab on to things, you can understand the need to make sure they aren't going to get out of the highchair. Other very standard items are a crotch bar, or the bar for inbetween their legs that makes sure they can't wiggle down and out. No complaints about safety at all.
Convenience: A+
Good lord this thing is the epitemy of convenience. Just last night I folded it up and brought it to the grandmothers. There are many conveniences so I'll list them.
1. Cloth padded cover is reversible, it is also easily washed by just removing it. Both sides have a different pattern so you can drastically change the appearence of the chair without doing anything.
2. The Try has multiple locking positions ranging from up close to the child to farther away, this lets it "grow" with your child.
3. Mostly one handed use. The release latch on the try can be done with 1 hand but I find to be safe about it I use two, one to release one to guide it off.
4. The 5-point harness, yes mostly a safety item but being able to strap that baby in lets you prepare the food or whatever without worrying, very convenient.
5. Under the cloth cover there is a seat pad, that is semi plastic, maybe that fake leather stuff, but anyway, it is really easily cleaned and can be removed. This just means it is easily cleaned which is after all, convenient.
6. There are mutiple positions for the chair, the seat will adjust vertically from about a foot above the ground to aobut 3.5 feet high, making it about dinner table level.
7. There is a clip on top for the tray that is dishwasher safe. Hello easy clean up.
8. The seat itself reclines. I don't have a use for this myself since my daughter sits on her own and doesn't need help but maybe younger babies that can't sit up without flopping over, this might be useful for those parents.
Well thats about it for convenient, if I think of any more I'll mention it in later edits.
DURABILITY: A
Only reason I can't give a A+ is I haven't had it 6 months, my minimum length of time to judge durability. I will say the legs are metal and the plastic is heavy plastic, it certainly looks and feels durable.
LOOKS: A+
Baby Trend obviously used designers on this one, the patterns in the cloth are appealing to the eye and the colors and shape of the chair itself are also very nice. I find it is a good addition to the kitchen area.
COST: B+
Ok now this highchair costs about 90 bucks, not cheap but not nearly as high as some of the other highchairs, one I saw was for 200!! Here's a trick, do a baby registry, put this highchair on the registry. If nobody give you it then go back afterwards and buy it. Most registry's will discount about 10% on things you didn't get. Bang now the chair costs about $81.
CONCLUSION
The breckenridge is a great highchair, plush, soft, safe, convenient. Worth the money in my opinion. Before you buy this or anything for your baby that they are are going to spend time "in", you need to go test it out. Go to your local babies-r-us and test one out by putting your baby in it. If your still in the pregnancy stage, then you might be forced to trust these reviews alone.
I believe the age range is from a few months old to just under 2 years of age.
The only problem I have read is that this model used to have a open release lever for the tray. This allowed older todlers to kick it and thus release the tray. This has been fixed! It now comes with a overhang covering the latch release making it impossible for your child to release the tray. While this wasn't dangerous I'm sure it lead to a lot of messy kitchen floors and startled pets not to mention parents.
