The Bottom Line: 3 1/2 stars. Nothing fancy here, it provides moisture to the skin. That's what it is suppossed to do and that's what it does.

| msmorvay's Full Review: Avon Basics Vita Moist Face Cream |
I think by now it is pretty obvious that I like Avon products. So I wont bore you with those details. There is a friend of my Mother who sells Avon, and I occasionally buy from her, but unfortunately she doesnt live that close, and she expects me to come pick up the orders at her house, unless she is going to see my Mom, so lately I have found myself purchasing from Avon on line. The site is informative and easy to navigate, and I have had no problem purchasing from it. I also get credit on MYPoints.com, for using it. I can even give my Moms friend credit for the sale.
For many years I had been using a cream for my skin called Nutura by Avon. Much to my dismay I have been unable to find a replacement cream that I like as much. But I have found a couple that I like nearly as much. One of them being Avon Basics Vita Moist, and of course I am forever grateful for my Clearly C.

The Product
Basically the product lives up to its name. It is quite basic. There is nothing truly exciting about it. It is a cream designed to provide moisture and that is what it does. Nothing fancy, no fancy claim, no change your life experiences just a little added moisture. The product has vitamins A,E, & B5. Vitamin A acts as an anti oxidant and has cellular renewal properties (that means it helps your skin to naturally exfoliate), Vitamin E is also an antioxidant, that protects the skin from free radicals, and helps to assist and the skins renewal process, and B5 is hydrating. All of these come together to help prevent aging, but this product is not intended to provide any reverse affects of aging. Other ingredients include the following:
purified water ,
mineral oil ,
cetearyl alcohol ,
myristyl myristate ,
petrolatum ,
propylene glycol stearate ,
retinyl palmitate ,
tocopheryl acetate ,
panthenol ,
peg-40 stearate ,
beeswax ,
benzyl alcohol ,
choleth-24 ,
carbomer-934 ,
triethanolamine ,
hydroxyethylcellulose ,
methylparaben ,
fragrance ,
d&c yellow no.10 ,
d&c red no.33
This information is take directly from the Avon Web Site.
The most important thing to know about the product is that it absorbs quickly into the skin after it is applied. Making it simple for you to apply it before bed, or before putting on your makeup in the morning.
Most people will also be happy to find that it is Allergy and Dermatologist tested but most Avon products are. We all know that Avon has been around for years, and it is a very trustable company. I have never used any Avon products that have caused me any negative reactions. I have used a couple that didnt cut the mustard, but I can say I feel safe when I use the products.
The cream is very has a light yellow tinge to it. It is very creamy, yet light and fluffy feeling, if that makes any sense. I sitting here sniffing it over and over again, and I cant really describe the scent. Its not really a sent at all, it just has a very lotion like smell to it, I cant really describe it. It is not bad it is not good, its just kind of there. The smell does not linger though so it is not something you really have to worry about.
Packaging and Value
Avon Basics comes in a little white 3.4 oz jar, and has a screw on lid. The top of the jar when opened is wide enough to reach a finger or two in get out some lotions. The jar is also sturdy and I have never had a problem with it. The lid color at the moment is yellow and matches the back ground of the product name background. For some reason the lid and back ground on the jar I have are light green. So it is possible that the yellow coloring is new. The best thing about the product is its price. Just $4.99 will get you a jar of this cream, and you can often find it on sale for even less. A little of the cream goes a long way, so a jar will last you a long time. So I find the product to be extremely economical, especially in comparison to a lot of other more expensive creams on the market today.
Applications and Uses
Application is very easy. Just put some on your finger and rub it on the desired areas of your face, remember up and out. You can use a very light touch and do not have to rub very hard, the product will quickly absorb into your skin. I would also make sure your face was clean before putting this on. Not because there is anything wrong with the product, its just good hygiene. You can then wear it to bed, or apply makeup over top of it with no problem.
I have also used mine as a cold cream. I dont normally where a lot of make up, but if I do go some place special I may where blush and powder. I find that I like to use this cream on my face to help remove some of the makeup that washing leaves behind. I use a tissue or a cotton ball and rub it all over my face then gently wipe it off. I find this is very gently on my skin, and is much better than rubbing or using a more abrasive product. I can then easily rinse it off. Then re-apply it if I wish to wear it to bed. I also occasionally use it to remove eye make up that ends up under my eyes, after I wash may make up on at night. It works like a charm and is gentle to my eye area.
My Experience
As I said there is no miracle here, just moisture pure and simple. I find the product easy to use and it keeps my skin soft. It is just that simple. It does absorb into the skin very quickly and you can feel the softening affects immediately. It is not the greatest thing to use if you are having an extremely dry skin day, but it does a great job on a normal basis with keeping my skin normal and from getting dried out in the first place. I guess you could say it is good maintenance.
As I said above it is very gentle and I have never had any type of negative reaction to it. I also feel confident putting it near my eye area of course not in my eye, but I use it right underneath very often and it does not cause me pain or burning.
This cream has never created any changes, positive or negative. It is just simply a way for me to keep moisture in my skin, and for that it works great, and the price is great.
Recommendation
If you are looking for a miracle in a bottle or jar, or the fountain of youth, keep looking. But if you just need a nice gentle moisturizing cream, I recommend you give this a try. It keeps my skin (most of the time) soft and subtle and I honestly have no complaints about it. It works just as well and in a lot of cases better than creams I have paid 5 times the price for. The product is worth the money. Keep in mind I have normal skin, not dry or oily. So I can not really gage how it would work on those skin types, although it is not at all greasy, or to dry. I would say if you have one of those skin types that you should wait until this goes on sale, pick it up at a cheap price and give it a try. You wont be out much money, and I think chances are you will be pleased.
