| erin5oaks's Full Review: Atkins Diet Advantage Bar |
I really think this bar is only for those of you who are actually on the Atkins diet. The rest of us luckily can pass on this awful tasting brand of bars. There are other energy bars that taste better, have less fat, and about the same amount of calories.
If you are actually interested in picking one of these bars up to see for yourself that they are bad you can now pick them up at grocery stores, health food/vitamin stores, and of course Atkins Centers.
There is a nice selection of flavors. The ones I have seen at my store are Creamy Berry Cheesecake, Praline Crunch, Chocolate Peanut Butter, Creamy Lemon Chiffon, Chocolate Raspberry, Chocolate Macadamia, Almond Brownie, Chocolate Coconut, and Peanut Butter. Doesn't these flavors sound appetizing? DON'T be fooled.
All of the bars that I have tried that are Chocolate are very waxy in texture. They remind me of really cheap Christmas or Easter candy. They look good but taste terrible. The chocolate also melts very quickly in your hands so be prepared to have a mess on your hands literally.
I would liken the other bars that are not chocolate to be coated in a yogurt like covering. It is chalky and unappetizing. You will feel like taking a big drink of water to get the taste out of your mouth.
I am all for foods that are dense in nutrients and easy to take along. I use these kind of products for when I must miss a meal, travel, workout, or as a suplement for my daughter who needs extra calories and nutrients.
Like everything else that is associated with the Atkins diet in my opinion they are expensive. Each bar costs between $2.00 and 2.80. That is much more expensive than say a Slimfast bar that I can often find on sale for about a dollar. You can pay less for these bars if you buy a box of them. There are fifteen bars in a box. I have seen the boxes for as little as much as $32.00 to as much as $40.
These bars are not low calorie. The ones I have tried range between 210 and 250 calories per bar. I am very put off by the fat content. They are between 10 and 13 grams of fat in the ones I ate. I can't believe that nutritionists would say that this is a good thing. If I am going to eat something with a fat content like that I at least want it to taste good.
They are not just empty calories like a candy bar. There are vitamins A, B, D, C, calcium, zinc, iodine, foilic acid, magnesium, and niacin.
If you are interested you can find more about the Atkins diet at www.atkins.com. You can use this as a meal replacement or as a snack on the Atkins diet.
I am sure that Atkins has some products that are more appetizing. This bar tastes like something your mother would make you eat because it is good for you.
