Freak369's Full Review: Esselte Assorted Color Glow Index Cards 3"X5" 100 ...
Oxford office products have always been dependable, be it their basic blank index cards or one of the products from the parent company Esselte like DYMO labelers or Pendaflex folders. Since I have a very small home office as well as an office space that I share with a few other small companies, I often find myself scrambling to find something usually the item I am looking for is at the other office when I need to so Ive learned to start buying things in two. The Oxford Glow Cards are a great way for me to keep track of where things are, schedule appointments for the boys [four colors, four boys] and help to keep me from going completely insane when driving them to various homeschool functions.
So what makes these different from every other index card? Simply put the colors other than that they are your basic, average, garden variety index card.. Each pack of 100 cards features four colors orange, yellow, pink and green. This makes it easy to color code things or to just break up the monotony of using plain white cards over and over again. The lining and spacing on these glow cards is standard and have a red header space and blue body lines. They are of average weight not too light, not too thick. They slide nicely into 3 x 5 sized index card holders or boxes and hold up to a good bit of use before they start showing a lot of wear and tear. Since the cards are colored they tend to show less dirty than the conventional white ones but on the same token, using different colored inks sometimes yields a strange color. A great example of this is when I used a green gel ink pen on one of the pink cards not exactly the prettiest color put at least I learned a lesson in what colors not to mix.
I started using these about five or six months ago and can honestly say that they have made a real difference around the house for tasking all the activities of the boys. They arent into sports but do have a lot of academic events that they attend, using these cards lets me know when there is an event, if they need to take anything special with them, the cost of it and since the back of the card is blank, I can write directions on it. I never thought a simple index card could do so much but the glow colors from Oxford are just what I needed. In the office they are great for leaving notes for the other companies, any repairs that need made or missed messages or package alerts. I really wanted to see if they boys would like these for note taking, keeping track of assignments and what not and to my surprise they really hated them. After they fell in love with other types of index cards I thought for sure that these would be a huge hit with them but they just didnt like the colors. In the past we have used the plain pastel ones as well as neon ones and they never complained about them but these got zeros across the board and thumbs down ratings.
If you are a crafter these come in handy to keep track of things that you need or projects you are working on and I recently started using them for recipes as well. Theres really no limit to what these can be used for and for the price about $1.49 per pack they are worth it if you want to add a little color to your home office, kids school work or to color code your filing system. These are a little hard to find at local retailers that dont specialize in office supplies but places like Office Depot, Staples and Office Max usually have these in stock.
The Bottom Line
So far I am really pleased with how these have worked out, since the boys dont care for them I dont have to worry about them wandering off from my home office but lately the ones I have at my second office seem to be dwindling since everyone grabs a few for notes and messages. These are strong and sturdy, hold up to a lot of use and are only about .25 cents more than the plain white ones. If you are looking for a little variety in the area of index cards, the Oxford Glow Cards are well worth checking out. If these colors dont appeal to you they are also available in plain white, ruled white, pastel and neon.
