| CJsMommy's Full Review: Anne Geddes - Ladybug Baby |
All right, I'll admit it....I'm an Anne Geddes junkie! I love those little babies in those cute photographs that Anne Geddes takes. The babies dressed up as teddy bears, the baby in the tub, babies surrounded by flowers.....what could be cuter? I had bought numerous pictures, calendars and books, when I suddenly discovered the Anne Geddes doll collection. How excited was I? Now I could not just look at the babies in the pictures....I could own them too!
Okay, so I'm a little strange. I got the dolls for me, not for any child. Yes, I'm 25 and still play with dolls....you should see my Cabbage Patch Kid collection (Really! My mother and I have a whole room devoted to the Originals....) So, you know when I saw the Anne Geddes dolls in the store, I had to have them....all of them. And, I let everyone know about it too!
Luckily for me, I received a number of them for birthdays and Christmas. I am now the lucky "mother" of an Anne Geddes Baby Butterfly, Squirrel, Sunflower.....and two Baby Ladybugs, which is what this review is about. And just so you know, they make these dolls in two sizes. I also own a miniature Baby Butterfly, which doesn't come in a box, and is about the size of a Beanie Baby.
Anne Geddes Baby Ladybugs are the epitome of cute. Each little bundle of joy comes in a purple box, with pictures of Anne Geddes Baby Ladybugs all over it. The inside of the box is very attractive, with blades of grass to make the Ladybugs feel at home.
Inside the box, you'll find a cuddly little ladybug. She (or he) comes with her (his) eyes closed, asleep for the night. Lips pursed tightly, awaiting your loving kiss. (The faces and hands are a molded plastic) Her head is covered with a black cap, to make her more buglike. There are two black ladybug antennae coming off the top of the cap. The body of the bug is just as you would expect, red with six black spots, and a black line down the center to separate the "wings" The underside is all black, and the legs are covered in black material. The sleeves are also black, but the babies hands are sticking out, all curled up in a fist.
I have both a Caucasian and an African-American Anne Geddes Baby Ladybug. I believe all the dolls come in both, which I think is very unique, and allows my collection to become even larger. There are a number of dolls that I have yet to find, including the elusive teddy bear.
I have chosen to keep most of mine in boxes for now. If I ever have a daughter, I do plan on decorating her room with the dolls. My niece owns a few of these dolls (she is 3) and she loves them as well. She likes to take them for rides in her baby stroller, and exclaims that they are quite cuddly. The beanie version is a great stocking stuffer, or bookshelf topper.
As you can tell, the Anne Geddes Baby Ladybugs and all her other dolls are a great addition to any doll lovers collection. It is also a good gift for any young girl wanting a baby doll of her own. The babies are just as cute as the photographs they are modeled after.
For the collector, I have found that the boxes hold up rather well. My son has beaten on them, and they don't look any worse for the wear. They are displayed charmingly in the boxes, and would sit well on a shelf.
If you love the Anne Geddes photographs like me, or just like a cuddly baby doll (or even have a fascination with dressing up dolls in Halloween costumes), then the Anne Geddes Baby Ladybugs are a great purchase. The faces are realistic, the clothes sturdy, and the doll irresistible. Bring a little of Anne Geddes home today!
