| mommykd's Full Review: Angel Line Sleigh Toddler Bed |
I'm still not sure if I like the idea of a toddler bed versus a regular twin sized bed, but we have one, and my daughter sleeps in it, so I thought I'd review it.........
Just before my daughter turned 2, she starting trying to climb out of her baby bed and I was beginning to get just a little worried that we were going to end up in the ER with a broken arm or leg. And since her crib was a regular crib and not the all in one type, the search was on for the perfect bed.
We purchased the Angel Line Sleigh Toddler Bed and we ordered it online from DMart2000.com. (Very pleased with the delivery and service) $99.00 + shipping
I decided for a few reasons to go with the toddler bed rather than a regular sized bed.
First, it meant I didn't have to purchase a new mattress, because this toddler bed uses a standard crib mattress, and has wooden mattress support slats to ensure stability so there's no need for a separate box spring. Second - it has two bed rails for that fit at the top of the bed for safety to prevent falling off. These rails are also removable for when your child is a little bit older. The rails only come down about 1/4 of the side of the bed, so the child is not completely confined. This is good and bad. Bad in that - they are not completely confined which means they can get up on their own - several times a night! The good parts are these same reasons. Now, at 3 1/2 , she can get up on her own to go potty at night, etc. Another reason we felt the toddler bed was a good idea is that it's smaller, closer to the ground in case she did fall off and we thought it might make the transition easier.
Our experiences -
Assembly was a little difficult -
Although it came with detailed instructions, I did have to call on Kevin (the husband) for this one. And he let out more than a couple of ugly words. Mostly this was because I insisted that he take down the baby bed and put up the new bed as soon as it arrived! The bed features a headboard, a footboard, the side rails, the "base", and wooden slats that fit into each side of the base to form the "support" for the mattress. Getting the slats to fit properly was the problem, but after a while he managed! The footboard and headboard have the traditional sleigh bed appearance.
The transition:
We made a very big deal out of the big girl bed and how proud we were of her for sleeping in it. We still put her same bedding in the bed and her same stuffed animals, etc. to make it still appear to be more like "her bed". She was excited because the cats would be able to sleep with her now instead of Mommy and Daddy. The first night, she slept in between us in our bed. The second night, she slept on the floor beside our bed. The third night, on the floor beside her bed, and so on and so on. Eventually, she decided the big girl bed was for her and slept in it. When it came time to change bedrooms to make room for the new baby a year later, we went through it all over again. She was fine with giving up her room - it meant she got a new room and she got to choose the new colors, etc. But it seems she didn't like the bed anymore and was once again in our room. Until I discovered that her only problem was I had put the bed in the wrong spot in her new room. We rearranged the furniture and she has slept in her bed in her room every night since!
My opinion of the bed itself -
I LOVE that it actually looks like a piece of furniture rather than a car in her room like some of the other toddler beds. It is sturdy and the wood is solid. I like that it uses the standard crib mattress and I feel that it is of better quality and can provide a better night's sleep (for everyone)than the plastic toddler beds that use the lesser quality mattresses.
My regrets -
Only one child can sleep in the bed, so if she has sleep over company someone has to sleep on the floor.
Since it is short, and has a weight /age limit, she will eventually outgrow it and we'll have to buy a regular sized bed anyway! But then it will be time to pass this one on to her little brother..........
I would recommend this bed if you are purchasing a toddler bed and want one that looks like a bed and not a toy!
If you are trying to save money "down the road" you may want to go ahead and purchase a regular bed.
Comes in Natural, White, Oak and Cherry. We chose the cherry wood to compliment the other furniture in my daughter's bedroom.
It is recommended for ages 18 months - 5 years.
The weight limit on the bed is 100 pounds.
