Pros: Works as well as regular Aleve because it has the same exact ingredients.
Cons: Works no better than regular Aleve.
The Bottom Line: Purchase of this Aleve product should be based on personal relief of pain and not the easy to open cap.

| snowflake224's Full Review: Aleve Arthritis Pain Reliever Fever Reducer 220mg ... |
Background:
A couple years ago my Aunt's doctor recommended Advil for her arthritis. With Advil, the pain subsided for her, but came back within a few hours.
Recently, she heard about Aleve Arthritis and thought it would be better for her arthritis, so we headed to CVS to make the purchase.
Description:
Aleve Arthritis is used to relieve: "minor pain of arthritis, headache, muscular aches, toothache, backache, the common cold, and menstrual cramps."
Aleve Arthritis is the same price as regular Aleve costing $8.99 for a package of 100 tablets.
Aleve Arthritis comes in an easy to open bottle. The cap twists off with little to no effort.
Tablets look the same as regular Aleve. They are blue and oval shaped. The pills are as small as an aspirin and easy to swallow.
The active ingredient in Aleve Arthritis is Naproxen sodium 220 mg (naproxen 200 mg).
Inactive Ingredients include: FD&C blue #2 lake, hypromellose, magnesium stearate, microcrystalline cellulose, polyethylene glycol, povidone, talc, titanium dioxide.
For adults older than 65 (which includes my aunt), the recommended dosage is no more than 1 tablet every 8 hours.
All directions and warnings should be read before taking any Aleve product.

Experience:
During our visit, my aunt took her first Aleve Arthritis pill. We started watching a movie and within about a half hour she picked up her knitting and went to work as we continued. When the movie was over, the two of us made lunch and sometime after we ate, she started complaining that her hands felt tight.
It had only been about 4 hours since her first pill, but she had only taken one at the time and normal pain relievers allow for two. I picked up the bottle to read the recommendation, but it said dosages for people over 65 should not exceed more than 1 tablet every in a 12 hour period.
After informing her that she could only take 1, she called her physician. The doctor called back and suggested my Aunt supplement the dosage with Tylenol. Once again, we headed back to CVS.
While at CVS I decided to compare the Aleve Arthritis with regular Aleve; the active and inactive ingredients were exactly the same. I was confused, what made Aleve Arthritis so special that it had arthritis in its title? Then it hit me, the bottle was easier to open. This was the only difference.
Removal of the cap was the least of my Aunts concerns. My Aunt has always kept the tops off on all her medicine bottles with just a piece of saran wrap covering them because they are difficult to open. Also, with regular Aleve all you do is touch the curved sides of the bottle and turn the cap. Opening it involves no added pressure or strength.
While the Aleve Arthritis is even easier to open ( just turning and not having to touch the sides at all) it offered no additional relief of my aunts arthritis. My aunt said the Tylenol completely relieved her arthritis pain and the headache she got out of frustration with the Aleve for the next 6 hours.
Overall:
Neither the Aleve nor the Tylenol helped relieve my Aunts arthritis pain for the advertised time. However, my Aunt plans to use the Tylenol from now on because at least when it stops working, it is safe to take more.
All in all, Aleve Arthritis is the exact same product as regular Aleve. Aleve Arthritis did relieve all of her pain for a good 4 hours, but did not work for the 8-12 hours advertised. She was not able to take more when needed and was thoroughly disappointed by this.
The only reason to get Aleve Arthritis is the easy open bottle, but if you have children in the house, the easy open bottle is easy for them to get into. And if you dont have children in the house, than the regular Aleve is also easy to open or if you find another product that works for your arthritis, you could use the saran wrap trick.
Rating:
At the end of each review, we are asked to give stars on a product. Normally, I would give regular Aleve 4 stars for its ability to relive my pain. However, I have to take into consideration that Aleve Arthritis offered no additional relief to the arthritis pain, fell short of its advertised relief length, it is unsafe for my Aunt to take a second tablet until 12 hours after the first, and it is unsafe to have around children. Therefore, I am going to give it 2 stars.
