We go camping, the REST of the family LOVES it! Me? Well I'm more of the thinking that a vacation means no cooking and/or cleaning so camping is not on the top of my list!
It's actually funny then that between the two types of camping we do ~ in a State Park in or hiking 10 miles a day, I prefer the hiking. Less people and a new spot nightly ~ more of an adventure, I guess.
The ONE thing I do prefer at the State Park is I get to use a Imaginair Aerobed Deluxe Mattress under my sleeping bag! And trust me, this is a VERY nice air mattress to sleep on!
WHAT MAKES THIS AIR MATTRESS DIFFERENT?
First off, you don't blow it up, you plug it in! Yes, it is blown up by an electric outlet ~ which is why I can't take it when we are hiking, but there are always outlets at the State Parks! when we hike, we either sleep on a small mat or directly on the floor of the tent, so this is a great treat!
Second, the cover is cloth so it doesn't "feel" like plastic when you lay on it and more importantly, it doesn't "squeak" every time you move! I am a light sleeper, so this alone, has helped me get a better nights sleep! When I sleep on a regular air mattress, I wake up every time it "squeaks" what's even better, is I wake up every time ANYONE'S around me "squeaks"!
Third, you can adjust the firmness of the Imaginair Aerobed Deluxe Mattress. This can be done in a heartbeat and is a nice comfort bonus. I have two kids that like it REALLY firm, one SOFT and the other two go for a level in between. What is great about this mattress is that they can have it the way they prefer without any trouble at all!
SETTING IT UP
Setting up the Imaginair Aerobed Deluxe Mattress is both VERY simple and VERY fast!
1. Take the mattress out of the duffel bag (is included with the bed) or, if this is the first time you are using it, out of the box.
2. Place the rolled up mattress on the ground away from any sharp objects and make sure the Air Release Valve is closed.
The Air Release Valve is located at the foot of the bed and can be closed by just pushing the valve cover into the valve opening. The easiest way to do this is by using a thumb on each side of the cover and firmly pressing it in.
3. Plug it in to any standard electric outlet.
4. Unhook he control panel off the mattress and push and hold in the button for 60 seconds.
Lay on the mattress to see if it is comfortable. If not, you can add more to make it firmer or release air to make it softer.
Re-hook the control panel back to the mattress.
Note: The mattress will NOT over inflated so don't worry if it is EXACTLY 60 seconds!
The top of the bed is cloth so it is already comfortable to lay on. It comes with a washable cotton cover which will help keep your mattress clean.
We just add the covers when we are camping but put on regular sheets if someone is using it indoors.
TAKING IT DOWN AND THEN STORING IT
1. Open the release valve to get the air out of the mattress. You open the release valve by putting a finger on each side of it and squeezing toward each other, until it pops opens.
2. It takes around 20 seconds to deflate. Now, fold the two sides inward toward the middle of the mattress. Starting from the top TIGHTLY roll the mattress toward the air release valve at the foot of the bed. This will get out any air left in the mattress.
3. Close the air release valve (for easy set up the next time) and store in the duffel bag which comes with the bed.
CLEANING
The sides and bottom of the Imaginair Aerobed Deluxe Mattress are plastic and can be cleaned with soap and water.
The top is treated with stain protector so that helps make clean up easy! We have gotten out the few stains we've had by using a little dish detergent on a cloth and then rinsing off with water and blotting it dry with a towel.
It comes with a washable cover and so obviously, you just toss that in the washer and dryer!
COST AND WHERE TO FIND IT
Originally, these were sold only on TV but now you can find them all over! They are sold at Target, Wallmart, along with bedding and camping stores to name a few.
They can be VERY pricey with the twins going for over $75! To me, this is a lot of money if you are only using them a few times a year.
Watch for sales, especially if they are placed in the camping department! Last year, Target clearanced them out right along with all of their camping gear. We were able to pick the twin size up for $24 each and the full long size for just $38! These were at a remarkable price and the only way I could have gotten them for the whole family! I notice they have them again this year but they are located a bit off the regular camping gear so I don't know if they'll go that low this year or not.
THIS AND THAT
** Although we use ours mostly for camping we have used them inside as well. They are great when the kids have guest over or out of town relatives drop by. Ours also have been used out on the decks or in the living room during slumber parties.
My kids have taken them with them when visiting relatives who do not have an extra bed. It is A LOT more comfortable than a sofa bed!
** You must roll the mattress really TIGHTLY to have it fit into the duffel bag. Younger children will need assistance with this.
** The full EXTRA long mattress size is a wonderful bonus for tall people ~ the first mattress we have owned that is longer than my husband!
** Even though this is so easy to set up, it is still an electrical product and should be set up by an adult!

This is a wonderful air mattress and if you can get it on sale, a good deal. You will always have a "spare bed" on hand!
