MY STORY
About 5 years ago, I was diagnosed with migraine headaches. Luckily, I was quickly diagnosed because my symptoms fit into all the criteria for the classic migraine. However, not so lucky, I was put on about every type of prescription medicine for migraines but none of them worked. Some even caused adverse side effects and worse, life-threatening reactions. After an exhaustive and desperate search to find a medicine to help me cope with my migraines, I finally stumbled upon Advil Liqui-Gels® and I can truly say that they have been a blessing. I finally get relief from my migraines with this over-the-counter pill. Who would have thought it would be that easy?
HOW I FOUND THESE GEMS
During an internet search, I found that Advil Liqui-Gels® are the only non-prescription pain reliever approved by Health Canada for not only relieving the pain of migraines but also in helping the symptoms that some people experience with migraines like: nausea & sensitivity to light and sound. If you are interested, my source for this is: http://www.advil.ca/liquigels/index.asp
WHY THEY WORK -- The Solubilized Difference
Advil Liqui-Gels® work differently from traditional ibuprofen because they are solubilized Ibuprofen. The definition of solubilized taken directly from the Advil website is: that it is completely dissolved in a liquid center. The principle behind the solubilized pill form is that it should work more quickly. I guess since they're already dissolved and in liquid form, they go straight to work once you swallow them or at least more quickly than traditional non-liquid type tablets. Why didn't anybody come up with something like this sooner?

HOW I TAKE ADVIL LIQUI-GELS® TO THWART A MIGRAINE:
For a migraine, I take two capsules with water at the first signs of the migraine coming on, usually this will stop the migraine dead in it's tracks in about 30 - 45 minutes. If it doesn't go away after the initial dose, I'll take another two tablets 4 to 6 hours later. Usually, this second dose completely rids me of my nightmarish headaches. If not, the second dose will at least bring the pain down from a 10 on the pain scale to about a 5. Then, I just go to bed and hope that the migraine is gone by morning. And, it usually is - sometimes I'll wake up in the middle of the night and take another capsule just for insurance that it will be gone by the morning. It also rids me of the accompanying symptoms I get with my migraines including: the pain behind the eye, nausea and vomiting & the sensitively to light and sound - oh, I have it all, and it can get really miserable!
OK, so this is my experience with Advil Liqui-Gels® on my particular migraine pain, it may not be yours. But if you haven't found anything to help your migraine pain and are at wits end, you might want to give this a try. Of course, if your pain does not respond to this after a couple doses, you may want to contact your doctor.
NOT JUST FOR MIGRAINES; IT'S HELPFUL IN RELIEVING ALL SORTS OF PAIN
This product is effective in reliving all types of pain. My family uses it for everything and it has become our OTC pain reliever of choice. For pain other that migraines, we usually take one liqui-gel and then another if the pain doesn't respond to the first. It also helps me with menstrual cramps & back pain. It effectively helped my son deal with his dental pain and also helps my husband with the pain from an "old football injury" that creeps up on him from time to time - thankfully we've found something that helps relieve his pain, because my hubby is such a baby when he is in pain! (HOPE HE DOESN'T READ THIS!)
TAKING ADVIL LIQUI-GEL® FOR MILD TO MODERATE PAIN OR FEVER
Sometimes for mild pain, you will only need one capsule. As the instructions say on the box, start out with one capsule and if that doesn't cut it, you can take another. You can take them every 4 to 6 hours; you can take up to 6 capsules in a 24 hour period, but no more without a doctors OK. You may want to consult your doctor if you feel that you need more than 6 doses in a 24 hour period. You may need something stronger than an OTC medicine at that point.
WHEN WILL YOU START TO FEEL RELIEF?
You should start to feel relief for mild to moderate pain in about 20- 45 minutes, sometimes sooner. For migraine pain, it may take a little longer. However don't dismay, it will at least bring the pain down a couple of notches, if not completely after a couple more doses.
HOW LONG WILL THE PAIN RELIEF AND/OR FEVER REDUCING BENEFITS USUALLY LAST?
Pain relief and fever reducing benefits usually last anywhere from 4 to 6 hours. That works out alright, since you can take them every 4 to 6 hours. Just remember: no more that 6 capsules in a 24 hour period without doctor's approval.
IMPORTANT NOTE (TAKE WITH FOOD)
Make sure that you take Advil Liqui-Gels® with some food, even if it's just a little. I know that when I have a migraine or dental pain the last thing I want to do is eat, but you really should try to eat a little something if you will be taking these. If it hurts to eat, maybe try some pudding, Jell-O, soup or a piece of bread. At least try to drink some milk to coat your stomach if you can't do anything else. Now, I have had no problems with this product hurting my stomach, but I guess some people have problems with Ibuprofen burning their stomach. This should not happen if you eat something when you take them. If you do experience stomach pain while taking Advil Liqui-Gels® you should consult your physician.
NOT FOR CHILDREN
The label clearly states not to give this product to children under the age of 12 without the consent of a doctor.
They are also available with the child safety cap. The safety cap isn't one of those impossible caps to open that give you more of a headache just trying to open them: you just press in the buttons that run directly across from one another and turn counter clockwise - easy for you, but not for the little ones! The safety cap is easy enough to open so that people with arthritis should not have a difficult time opening it.

INTERACTIONS
As with any medicine, you should ask you doctor or pharmacist if Advil® will interact with any prescription medicine you are taking. When looking up interactions, Advil® may not always be listed under "Advil® ", it could be listed under Ibuprofen or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).
Combining a standard NSAID with a vitamin K antagonist increases the risk of bleeding.
To see if any drugs you may be taking might interact with Advil®(Ibuprofen), you might want to try drugstore.com's interaction checker:
Drugstore.com's Drug Interaction Checker
http://www.drugstore.com/pharmacy/drugchecker/
Also, remember to check any herbs, vitamins or supplements that you may be taking to see if they may interact, too. A good place to check out these types of interactions with herbs and supplements is:

SIDE EFFECTS
My family and I have not experienced any side effects from the Advil Liqui-Gels,.
But there are some possible side effects for Ibuprofen (info taken from drugstore.com) and they are:
SIDE EFFECTS that may go away during treatment, include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, gas, constipation, indigestion, dizziness, lightheadedness, drowsiness, or headache
Before using Ibuprofen (from drugstore.com)
Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions including: asthma, nasal polyps, any allergies - especially aspirin/NSAID allergy (e.g., naproxen, celecoxib), pregnancy, or breast-feeding. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about taking this medicine.
ADVIL LIQUI-GELS® VS. ADVIL MIGRAINE®
You may be wondering why I just didn't take the Liqui-Gels they have specifically for migraines, called Advil Migraine® . Well, from what I can tell by reading both packages they are exactly the same thing only they are different color and size: the Advil Liqui-Gels® are a clear green liquid and the Advil Migraine® is a clear orange colored pill. The Advil Migraine® I think comes in a different shape too; I think it's a little smaller, so if you want a smaller pill you might want to try that, but like I said earlier, the pill is very easy to swallow anyway. I don't really care what color or size it is or how it gets rid of my migraine, I just care that it does.
WHERE CAN YOU BUY ADVIL LIQUI-GELS®?:
You can find Advil Liqui-Gels® at almost any major pharmacy or supermarket. You can also find them online at these stores: drugstore.com, CVS, Eckerd, Walgreen's, Costco.com & clickpharmacy.com, to name a few.
SIZES AVAILABLE
Advil Liqui-Gels® are available in many different sizes. I have found them in the 20, 40, 80, 100, 135, 180, 200 count. But all these sizes are usually not available at each store. Usually, each store only carries a few different sizes, (one of the smaller and one of the larger sizes). Of course, buying it in the larger amounts saves you money in the long run, you just have to decide what's right for you according to how much you and your family normally need to take an OTC pain reliever.
PRICING:
Online, I found the prices very similar, but Eckerd and CVS usually have the better prices. However drugstore.com had some amounts available which no one else carried. What I've found in the 20 count is usually about $3.89, the 40 ct. is around $5.49, the 80 ct. $8.49, 100 ct. is $8.99 (I found this amount available online at drugstore.com), 135 ct. was $11.99, & 180 ct. (again only at drugstore.com) was $12.79, and 200 count was $14.99, but $11.99 at Costco.com

Bottom Line: I highly recommend this pain reliever to anyone who wishes to attack their tough pain and do it quickly. Why wait for ordinary pain reliever to kick in when you can get faster relief from Advil Liqui-Gels® ? I also recommend this for people with migraines, if you have tried almost everything out there with no luck or if you may be apprehensive about trying some of the stronger and sometimes dangerous prescription drugs out that they use to treat migraines, then give this a try - What have you got to lose? -- other than the pain!
