If you get migraines like me, you're probably always looking for another pill to help you get through your next headache. There are prescription drugs that you can take, (like Imatrex) but they tend to knock me out for a few hours in order to help at all. I sometimes get these headaches at the change of seasons or if I get very stressed out due to work. Sometimes, I'll get them if I haven't had enough sleep.
If I get a migraine at work or when I've got something to do, I can't take the prescription because it really incapacitates me. (It makes me go to sleep for at least three to six hours) So I try to find something to make the pain manageable until I can have some quiet time to take the real stuff.
However, I've found that most over-the-counter pills for headache don't work at all. Bayer and all the aspirin, Tylenol and all ibuprofen pills and even Aleve don't help to take the edge off the pain. Recently, however I found something that does help.
Advil Cold and Sinus helps me to remain functional when I get my headaches. If I can take three Advils and keep quiet with my eyes closed for ten minutes I can shake the headache for a while. The best way to do fight off the headache is to take the pills and shower in really hot water for about twenty minutes.
Advil is about 8 dollars for 24 tablets -- or about 3 dollars more than regular aspirin. It works great on my headaches, but it also works on colds with fevers. The pills are oblong in shape and bigger than traditional aspirin. They are coated with some type of a sugar substance that makes swallowing them pretty easy.
I don't get drowsy when I take these, but I know that other folks (including my wife) are knocked out by them. They contain no antihistamines (the active ingredient in Actifed) that make many people sleepy after ingestion.
I think that Advil C&S is a lifesaver, but I do want to caution anyone reading this epinion that it should only be used when you really need it. As in all things, moderation is needed. There's no risk of addition, of course, but if you continue to take these, you'll build up a tolerance to the pain medication.
