9TimeZones.com - an eMail screenplay collaboration between Hungary and L.A. (includes first draft script 'The Fall In Budapest') by Alan C. Baird with Anikó J. Bartos
Last summer, I heard some advance hype about this new book at the local Heart of Film Screenwriters Conference, sponsored by Austin's film fest. Maybe our own Ain't It Cool News pundit Harry Jay Knowles was holding forth late one night in the bar, but I might be wrong.
It wouldn't be the first time.
Anyway, this sounded like an interesting concept: boy meets girl on the Internet, boy & girl write a screenplay from opposite sides of the globe, resulting in contest successes, which paves the way for a much-anticipated book, yadda yadda yadda.
However, I'm ashamed to admit that it took so long to buy the dang thing, coz this one's definitely a keeper. The coauthors not only write a hot screenplay while falling in love, they also invite us along for their roller-coaster ride.
And what a journey it is: scenes from Hungary's 1956 revolt form the linchpins of their dramatic script, while a cyber romance unfolds in the e-mails they exchange to write the thriller. The American woos her by attaching many of his short stories, so there's something for everyone in this book. And that's not to mention the companion website; the whole kit and caboodle dovetails purty slick down there:
www.9TimeZones.com
I can't wait to see how the movie turns out.
