Pros: Great power delievery, good handling, excellent suspention.
Cons: Some stock components are junk, the end of the two stroke is near.
The Bottom Line: This bike is a work of art. The techies at Yamaha have done it for the second year in a row, and produced a bike the compitition never expected

While practicing on a local motocross track, I got the chance to ride a 2001 YZ 250F for the day. While on this bike, trust me I never missed my 2001 YZ 125. This bike is so good its almost cheating, Yamaha has truely laid down some great technology this year.
ENGINE
The bike has a very potent 4 stroke powerplant. The power comes on smooth and produces very controllable power all the way to 13,000 RPMS!! The type of power the bike has makes it very easy to control and ride faster on slippery areas or hardback dirt. Hands down the bike produces more power then 125cc 2 strokes.
HANDELING
Riding a four stroke takes awhile to get used to. After riding 2 strokes for all my life I was surprised to say that I learned the thumper very quickly. You have to get used to "Engine Compression Braking," were when you let off the gas the compression of the engine slows the bike down. The bike handels very well when you get used to it and carves corners with ease. On flat track corners, the thing just claws for traction and stays glued to the ground.
DISLIKES
I have very few complaints with the bike. The handlebars, sprokets, chain, and graphics are all junk as with most japaneese dirtbikes. The bars will bend on ur first crash, the chain wears out very quickly, and the graphics will be ripped apart by your knee.
Motocross has just entered a new era, we know have the tecnology to produce four strokes that can run with two strokes. With tightening EPA regulations two strokes will be a dieing breed.
