getting rid of flies in the garage

Are the flies that appear to be on an invisible race track (circling non-stop) also a type of fruit fly? They are much smaller than the typical "house fly" and seem to appear out of nowhere and then hang out in the same 3 sq. feet in my garage. They are hard to kill because they don't ever stop and yet I don't know how they survive because they never land to eat or rest!

Any suggestions on how to get rid of these pests?

And while on the topic of flies, any suggestions on how to minimize the large ugly ones that hang out in my puppy's outdoor "potty spot" ... ? Obviously I can't control them completely because it's outside but would love any ideas.

Thanks,
Sarah

RE: getting rid of flies in the garage

I have a whole zoo of insects in my garage and I tamp them down by using one of those canned foggers once a year. You can buy the foggers at places like Home Depot. You set up the can on a box, press the button and quickly exit the garage, closing all doors and windows behind you. Two or three hours later, open all the doors and windows, and toss out the empty can. You might try using one a month until the bugs decide there are better places to live. Last I saw, these foggers came in packs of three for about $12 or so.

I don't have any advice for the outside flies... perhaps someone else will.
