We had already bought a crib when we got this basket, but we just felt that our preemie baby would feel lost in the football field of a crib we had. We didn't want a traditional wicker-type bassinet because they just seemed so flimsy and it seemed that the hood would get in the way of getting baby in and out of it. We needed something that could be easily carried from one room to the next because we didn't have a monitor and we didn't have a bassinet/play-yard combination. We were also looking for something that was well-made, functional, and attractive. We feel that this Moses basket fit the bill.
The linens that come with it - the bumper, the blanket, and the pad cover are exceptionally well-made of quality material. It comes in a variety of designs of which we chose the Fish theme, an attractive pattern of primary-colored fish and stripes. The linens are easy to remove for washing. The basket itself is of better quality in terms of sturdiness, stability and construction than the baskets we saw in local retail stores. The problem of the handles getting in baby's face was not something we worried about because all we had to do after carrying baby from one room to the other was twist the handles outward, away from the basket and they stayed down. Then, when we had to carry the basket to another room, we simply twisted the handles back inward.
Our baby has been home for nearly 3 months now and we still put her in this basket for sleeping. She was tiny when she came home at 4 lbs and now she weighs 9.5 lbs and she's still using it. We also have her sleep in bed with us, but we put her in the Moses basket which we then place in the bed. We've also put her in the basket in the crib so she still has that feeling of security around her.
This was one of the best purchases we made for our baby and if the one we had were to wear out, which is highly unlikely given the quality of the basket, we'd buy another Hoohobbers Moses basket without hesitation.
