| TheBaba's Full Review: Beanie Babies |
In 1994, when my daughter-in-law first became pregnant, I found myself walking through the mall looking at all the cute stuffed toys. Not too many of them where meant for boys....No Doctor had told us she was having a boy yet....but we knew! Then I came across these adorable little stuffed critters called "Beanie Babies".
They had a little tag on their "tushes" with their name on it...and a heart tag(no poem yet)was attached to an ear, wing, leg, or paw! And best of all....there were dinosaur's, fish, and even a spider....stuffed animals that a little boy might like! I was so excited....I bought about 8 different ones right there and then! The prices at that time were $4.59 each, and I figured $40 wasn't too much to spend on my first grandson!
Well, a few weeks later, I was out to lunch with a friend, and we decided to go for a walk through a different mall. Lo and Behold....More Beanie Babies! Only bought 6 this time though....mainly because those were the only ones that were different from what I had already bought!
Months passed....tummys grew...more Beanie Babies kept appearing!! And naturally....this "Baba" kept buying!! Now Cody is getting ready to make his appearance and I have got "bags & boxes" filled with stuffed animals!
My thought was always..."Gosh...I hope he likes these things....cause I've spent a small fortune on them"!!
These toys are small and some have plastic eyes attached...so Cody wasn't allowed to really play with them for a couple of years. In those couple of years ....Beanie Babies became the biggest stuffed toy rage to ever hit the world!!
Now I have 3 grandchildren and they each have a set of their own Beanie Babies. The last 2 do not have any of the ones that were released in 1994....they were already "Retired"! Some they play with....some set on shelves, being saved....and some were sold at the height of the boom...with the money going into college accounts!
I was one of the lucky ones who got into "The Beanie Baby Craze" right in the beginning. Then I went through a few years of hunting them down because everyone was into the craze. Just yesterday I got another box of the newest ones delivered. I'm still collecting them for the kids...but now I let them come to me!!
