Romantic Dinner - Serves 5
Mar 10 '00 (Updated Dec 05 '00)
This is a Valentines dinner for the whole family to enjoy rather than the Romantic Dinner for 2. Romance, I have learned, must be taught to little boys. And they best learn by the example set by their mom and dad. So, this is a recipe for mood.
For this dinner you will need:
Candles
Music (no TV)
The 'good' stuff - the special dishes or anything red and white.
Red cinnamon heart candy scattered across the table.
Something added to the table in the way of decoration. Either a lace tablecloth with red flowers in the center of the table or red ribbons tied around white napkins. Red construction paper place mats with heart doilies can be made by your children and protected with clear contact paper. Involving them may be just the thing to spark conversations of how mom met daddy, how long they dated and so forth.
Favorite foods prepared with presentation and festivity. Perhaps the meat loaf can be prepared in a heart shape or bread shaped into a heart shape before baking. For dessert let them eat cake - heart shaped of course.
To make heart shaped cake:
Bake half your batter (your flavor choice)in a
round pan and the other half in a square pan.
Cut the round cake in half. Place one cut edge
against one side of the square cake,
place the other round cake half, against the next
side of the square cake to resemble a heart.
Frost with your favorite frosting, covering the
"seams" as you work.
Or serve heart shaped cookies with love messages you've written in frosting. The goal of the dinner is mood and example. The fun you'll have along the way is the reward. Happy Valentines Day!
