3 years running, still a great game...

by Omnistar , Sep 17 '00
Pros: Sense of Community, Easy Skill Gain, New Player Friendly
Cons: Repetitive actions to gain certain skills, minimal lag, music becomes repetitive
I purchased this game a little over 2 and a half years ago. For the first year, I became extremely addicted- logging on about 3-5 hours per day. Numerous things have changed since then. To those who would choose to join Ultima Online (as a new player)...

The game that causes you to become a Hermit!

by Upinya , Jul 19 '01
Pros: Amazing interaction with people, huge world, hundreds of skills!
Cons: Addictive, All time consuming, drain on money, very hard to start off, CRAP CustomerService
Good lord where to start with this revolutionary game? I know i only give the game a rating of 3 stars but that is because of the diffuclutly starting and making a well rounded character. I must say that in the 2 years that i was under the spell of UO...

A secondary world

by BLINKEYE1 , Feb 07 '00
Pros: Great detail, a mini world where you can shape your character
Cons: Too involved-got to keep up with it, addictive
I played Ultima Online a few months ago. It was great when I started. I love stories of magic, monsters, and heroes and thought this game was exceptional because it made you part of a never-ending fantasy story.
That's how it was for me for the...

Ultima Online - The start of something good?

by fm_hunter Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 1000, Feb 28 '00
Pros: Vast world, diverse gameplay
Cons: Internet lag, abusive players
These are the memoirs of an Ultima Online junkie. I was once very addicted to this game, playing an average of 20 to 30 hours a week, for about 9 months or so. Needless to say, I didn't get out much, but I had just moved to a new town, had a new job,...

The Best Online Game Ever... But that doesn't mean much

by Caban , Nov 28 '99
Pros: Balanced Combat System, best online game to date, Built around a great engine
Cons: Buggy, Horrendous Customer Support(but it does seem to be improving)
I first set foot in Ultima Online back in July of 1997, I had been waiting for it for approximately one year. It didn't disappoint.

Considering the fact that it is now nearing December of 1999, and I am still playing, OSI must have done a...

Money to Burn

by Diznik , Mar 13 '00
Pros: Lots of fun, vast game area.
Cons: Other players, emotionally and financially draining.
Ultima Online is a fantastic fantasy game. You can customize your character using dozens of different skills. The wizard class is the most powerful as is the case with most games of this type. You have real time chat with other players and can choose...

Get me out of here!

by Tsilva25 , Nov 14 '00
Pros: You can cancel your subscription online, never having to ever deal with a real human
Cons: I couldn't UNinstall it fast enough
Maybe I'm just bitter towards Ultima Online. After all, like any other red-blooded, dyed-in-the-wool techno-geek that loves hyphens, I pride myself on being able to hack and slash just about anything to death given enough time. What I thought would be...

Hey, Ma! Junior just threw the monitor out the window!

by SusanFox , Jul 02 '00
Pros: depth of play, community, complexity
Cons: glitch city, callous and arrogant customer service
I jumped into the world of Ultima Online after reading one of those Sunday wedding profiles in the New York Times. The couple described the game and how they met while playing. I thought, "hmm...any game that mimics real life while fighting...

HArd to get into

by wackerz , Feb 15 '00
Pros: GAmeplay
Cons: graphics
This game will take you well over a month and about 100 hours to learn. When you do, you'll probably spend more time on this game then you will in real life. It took me about 2 months to acually learn about the game and get into it but once i did. it was...

A constantly improving virtual fantasy environment

by magika , Feb 19 '00
Pros: Flexible, updated regularly, awesome social setting
Cons: Anti-social types, customer service
This is by far the best massively online multiplayer game on the market today. Of course, that's only saying that it passes up two others, but it's still worth saying.

It's biggest high point is the flexibility that it allows the player. You...

MUD Plus

by Xiag , Jan 02 '00
Pros: Large open game, with plenty of room for experimentation
Cons: Occasional lag, and many people are anti-social...
When I started college a friend showed me something called a MUD (Multi User Dungeon). You walked around, wore armor, killed monsters and talked to other real people. It was text, had no plot, and was addicting enough to end my school career. I out...

Love of a challenge

by anglnttwn , May 16 '00
Pros: Full scale fantasy enviroment with multiple skills and classes.
Cons: Down time and lag.
The recommendation of others highly influenced my purchase of this game. As I logged play time on UO, I began to get a feel of the lack of feeling some people play with. Shards like Pacific and Atlantic had become nothing but havens for Player...

Definitely not your dad's dungeon crawl.

by alyssa01 , Mar 31 '00
Pros: The most controversial online game ever made.
Cons: Nearly impossible to start fresh.
Overview: Any time a discussion is begun on this, one of the most controversial games ever created, you will find yourself barraged with opinions from people who trumpet their strong feelings for this game, one way (love it) or another (hate...

A fetid pile of garbage

by Ithaqua , Nov 28 '99
Pros: It came with a neat pin and cloth map, which I used to make a crude diaper.
Cons: The cloth did not absorb the feces when I soiled myself after realizing how much time and money I had wasted. I also got a rash.
The Ultima series has always been a mainstay of computer gaming, and in 1997, buyers rushed out to purchase Ultima Online, the first Ultima game since the disastrous Ultima 8.

Ultima Online was, and still is, a terribly buggy piece of...

PC Games/Online Games - "Ultima Online" I love and hate it.

by Mr_D Epinions Most Popular Authors - Top 1000, Mar 30 '00
Pros: Many interesting aspects, tons of variety.
Cons: Outdated graphics, plenty of annoying aspects.
Ultima, or rather the Ultima RPG series, had been a part of my life ever since I was a kid. I vividly remember the summer of 1984, where my brother, best friend and I basically spent the whole thing playing Ultima IV. So, when I heard about Ultima...
