In Need of a Good Preparer?
Jul 16 '00
As a veteran tax preparer and an Enrolled Agent, I know that some tax preparers are better than others. So what does the average layman need to know? When calling a firm for an appointment ask for a Senior preparer. That does not necessarily mean an older person. That are preparers as young as their late 20's and 30's that have done taxes for years.
Next item is to ASK questions. We have heard all types and we never believe that there is a dumb question. If you are not comfortable with your preparer ask for the manager and get a different one. Sometimes even the manager will do the return.
Next--if you know that you need alot of time with the preparer and you have alot of questions. Schedule an appointment...Sunday's are a GREAT time for that appointment. The offices are usually slower then.
REMEMBER that mid January to Mid February are the busiest times of tax season. Usually busier than April.
Remember YOU are the client and you need to have ALL of your questions answered, and it is YOUR money make sure you get what you pay for.
Tax preparation is a nerve wracking experience, pick someone who will take the worry out for you. Your peace of Mind is invaluable.
