If you are a football fanatic and your home team is in the playoffs, chances are you are thinking of, no, GOING to the Super Bowl. What else is there? There are the tailgate parties, the smell of stale beer rotting in the sun.. You have to be there to experience the heavily painted and often smelly fans both cheering and jeering for the hometown favorites.
However, if you are not one of those lucky few going to the Super Bowl, all is not lost. The next best thing is to get together amongst friends to watch the game on TV, whether at home, or at a sports bar. The ambience may not rival that of being in a stadium atmosphere, but at least it is safe, and you still get to watch the game. So how to watch? Most people would agree that the bigger the TV, the better; and it helps to have superb picture quality. The Sony Wega 32" KV32FV16 certainly fulfills both these goals and more.
The Sony Wega is compact and lighter than TVs of the same size category. Its screen is flat, and when viewed from all angles, you are still able to see what is on the screen without distortion and glare. The secret lies in the newly engineered Trinitron tube which is not only more accurate, but compact. The profile of the picture tube is only half that of regular TVs this size. The Wega certainly looks like a flat panel, but clearly it is not. One feature worth noticing is that, although listed at 32" measured diagonally, pictures seems to loom larger.on a Wega. Also, the corners of the screen are not rounded as in regular TVs due to better focusing control of the picture tube.
Among the standard features, this TV has 5 channel "favorites" preset, speed surfing, clock and snooze timer, standard 181 channel capabilities, V-chip parental control, closed captioning, and channel labelling options. KV32FV16 also features a color temperature adjustment (to change warmness of picture), dynamic focusing, SRS 3D audio effect, and steady sound. These extra features, particularily the SRS 3D audio effect, is suitable for someone setting up a home theater, or just marketing glitsch as justification for an overpriced TV. (in which case, the other 32 inch Wega models will do just fine).
The onscreen menus on all Wega models are comprehensive and easy to understand with Spanish and French menu translations available. The remote control which comes with the Wega is well made, with buttons and features thoughtfully placed.
The KV32FV16 has two speakers built in to the TV both located on the sides of the set. It is definately stereo, and features various input modes for your VCR and DVD players and all other video components. You have S-link, and RCA jacks for audio and video components, located both front and rear of the set. The front inputs are hidden away behind a spring loaded trap door.
The design of the Wega is ultra-modern elegant. It has a rectangular shape with the screen filling out the chassis without much wasted space. The TV comes in cool metallic shades like blue, or silver. The KV32FV16 is the top of the line 32 inch wega model. It has everything, and perhaps overkill if you don't need the listed features. I think it is overkill myself, either the KV32FS12 or FS16 would be better choices. Both are flat screen 32" Wegas, but without the dynamic sounds and picture quality controls.
In terms of cost, the lower costing 32 inch wega model is the KV32FS12 at around $1000. Next comes the KV32FS16 at around $1100, then comes the KV32FV16 at around $1300.
