HomeWellness & BeautyOver-the-Counter MedicineHow To Choose A Cold Allergy Medication

The Bottom Line Is a "cold allergy medication" something for people who are allergic to colds?

I have allergies. Most of my friends have allergies. I think everybody's allergic to something. Like there could be an eskimo who's deathly allergic to cactus juice, and he'd never know.

I've seen doctors about my allergies, and they all have the same advice for me: "Yep, you're allergic all right." They don't seem to have any idea what I should take to fight off the allergy.

I went to the pharmacist to see what over-the-counter medication was available. The pharmacist advised me to see my doctor.

So, I went to the source I always go to for advice when everything else has failed. Television.

The Television told me I should get Claritin. So I did. And yet the Claritin did nothing for my allergies.

I went back to the cathode ray oracle for more advice. And this time it said "Buy Tylenol Cold & Sinus". I did as it commanded and bought the Tylenol Cold & Sinus caplets. Whatever you do, don't accidentally bite into these. They taste so bad your tongue will fall out.

I returned to my rectangular god and I asked "Television, why have you forsaken me?" And the Television said "New, Improved Claritin." This time I risked the wrath of an angry deity and disobeyed the word of the Television. I bought Chlor-Tripolon. I did this because the bottle was very plain and boring. Didn't go at all with what I was wearing.

And lo, the light shone forth, and the nasal passages did clear. The evil mucus was cast out, and the swellings of the eyes did shrink.

It doesn't work for everyone though. I suppose the lesson is that there are dozens of different allergy medications on the market because there are dozens of different types of allergies. And different medications work for different people. It can't hurt to keep trying different medications until you find one that works for you.

Unless you're deathly allergic to Claritin, in which case you could die, I guess.
