| lorace's Full Review: Bissell Carpet Sweeper Model 2600 |
This will not be one of my long-winded, detailed reviews! You can relax because this little sweeper does not run on electricity, gas or anything but womanpower! Well, now and then, some manpower may take over, but basically the Bissell® Carpet Sweeper 2600 is a simple sweeper with many uses.
The Package
We bought this in Smart & Final and I really dont remember how much it cost. Somewhere around $30.00, it seems to me. I trust the Bissell® name, its been around a long time, thats why I chose this one.
The metal sweeper comes in a box and is simple to set up. The metal handle is in 4 sections that just slide together into a tapered joint, and finally, is screwed into the sweepers base.
Except for keeping the size of the box down, I dont see any sense to this segmented handle, unless youre very short, then 1 or 2 sections would be great for you! Lol. Theres a large hole at the end of the handle for hanging the sweeper up.
The Bissell® sweeper itself is a Forest Green color and is only 9 ½ x 11 x about 2 high. I dont know its weight, but its not heavy for me and Im not very strong.
On the underside of the cleaner, there are 2 large main roller brushes and each corner has a little straight brush. These corner brushes are to help you around mop boards. The large brushes are very full and large. Bissell® says the large brushes have 50% more tufts, and I think it must be true.
There are 3 large wheels on each side, plus 2 smaller wheels that are attached to the ends of the roller brushes. The wheels adjust to the different levels that you roll over.
Theres a dustpan on each end of the underside in which the dirt and lint get trapped. They are very simple to pull open to empty out the debris. You just hold the sweeper over a trash can, open a door at a time and empty them. Youll be amazed at how full they can get.
What Good is it, you ask?
Good question. It sure wouldnt take the place of your vacuum, because its not meant to. I think its meant for quick cleanups only, to keep you happy with your floors appearance until you get down to serious work on it.
But, say you look out the window and see unexpected company parking out front. Whoops! And you just spilled the contents of your hole puncher all over the carpet. Confetti all over the place. Too late to get out the vacuum.
Then grab this little green cleaner and push back and forth a few times, throw it back in the closet, and answer the door. Theyll never know that you did a major cleaning job in their honor, because the confetti is gone.
What I dont like about the Bissell® 2600
The main thing I dont care for is that the handle goes in only one direction, while a smaller one I used to have would swing both ways. But you do get used to it, and its so light that turning it around is not a problem.
Also, on thick carpets you need to put more pressure on it and go back and forth quite a bit. The traction on the wheels could be improved, I think.
What I do like about the Bissell® 2600 .
Its great for quick cleanups, especially on tile floors. Its great for picking up dog hair, too. Ask me how I know. I use the sweeper in my computer room where Im always dropping paper clips or the above-mentioned confetti.
If you have a low weave carpet this will do an very good job between vacuuming sessions. On other carpets, it will easily pick up the surface specks that are so annoying at times.
Conclusions
This is one of the sturdiest carpet sweepers Ive had. Its a little heavier than most of the ones Ive tried, meaning you dont need to press down quite as hard. Yet I do have to press down on it, now and then,as Im moving it back and forth. It doesnt exactly swoop the dirt away without any effort..
The best way to get the most use out of one of these sweepers is to keep it clean. The rollers pick up rubber bands, hair, little candy wrappers, you name it! The rollers get hungry and eat the debris they find on the floor. But you must keep them clean, or they lose their appetite and you wont get very good results.
A little comb (which Ive lost) came in this package and if you dont use it, youll find that the rollers mash down and become ineffective. I found an old comb and use it. If too much string gets wrapped around the rollers, just clip it with a seam ripper, then comb.
So, its up to the user how well this little BISSELL® 2600 works for him or her.
Im glad I own one and as long as your expectations are not too high, youll be glad to have one, too. Its pretty nice to have around.
Thanks for reading. I hope my Review has been helpful to you.
