Cons: A spider crawled across my face while I slept.
The Bottom Line: If you are traveling with your family, this is an excellent choice for a hotel. They will make you feel welcome and the rooms are first rate!

The name says it all. Comfort Inn Suites at 1550 E. Main Street in Lincolnton, North Carolina is one of the best chain hotels I’ve ever had the pleasure of visiting. My 6-week experience with this hotel gave them plenty of opportunity to show me a bad side, but Comfort Inn Suites never disappointed.
When my husband was transferred to North Carolina from his job at Fruit of the Loom in Arkansas, the company put our family (husband, 1-½ year old son and myself) up in a hotel until we found a house. I had been down this road before and dreaded the hotel room, which is lovely for a short stay, but generally miserable when you consider it home. Did this chain ever pleasantly surprise me! I almost hated to leave.
Staff and Customer Service
To be quite honest, it is not normal for me to frequent 5 star hotels. Thus admitting that I have no point of reference, this hotel met every need my husband and I had with a smile. I have seen fancier hotels, sure, but this one lacks nothing. The hospitality my family received during our stay made us feel welcome. They came to know us by name and went above and beyond the call of duty many times. Once I went to gas up our car and realized I had no cash. I called my husband at the hotel to bail me out and of course the phone was busy. The front desk clerk was only too glad to run upstairs to hand deliver my message. They were willing to help in any way they could.
The cleaning service was exceptional as well. I’ve been in hotels where they will grudgingly give you 3 thin towels for your family, but this hotel was most generous with their big, fluffy white towels. Since we stayed so long, I did all of our picking up, so the maids would only come by every 3 days or so to clean the bathrooms and only changed the sheets weekly. They would have gladly come daily, but we liked our privacy so they respected that.
Room Décor and Amenities
Lincolnton is a small town, but this hotel is a jewel nonetheless. It is the newest one in the city, so it looks wonderful. The rooms were spacious and nicely decorated in fashionable colors. Who in the world likes orange and brown color schemes anyway? The carpet was brand new and stainless! Since ours was a non-smoking room, it didn’t smell stale at all.
The room we stayed in was a suite probably double the size of a standard room. It was plenty large enough for two adults, a toddler and a Rubbermaid box full of toys. In the living area there was a small table with 4 chairs that was invaluable. We used it as our dining table and for coloring and painting activities as well! Along the back wall was a nice sized sofa that pulled out into a queen-sized bed. The bed in our room was king-size and the hotel provided us a crib for Ty.
The room also came equipped with a mini kitchenette that included a nice sized sink to wash dishes, a microwave and a mini refrigerator. It also had plenty of cabinet space for all of our snacks and plastic dinnerware. The bathroom was very large, with a separate sink area complete with a large closet with mirrored doors. The tub was a large whirlpool bath that was big enough for all three of us to have a bath together! It also had a shower, but we usually opted for the whirlpool! The jets worked wonderfully and we never ran out of hot water, even after filling that huge tub up to the rim!
Some of the other little extras in our room that made a big difference were free USA Today newspapers each morning, a coffeemaker (with coffee, sugar, non-dairy creamer and mugs), 25” television with remote, HBO and an iron complete with a full-sized ironing board. It was truly a home away from home.
Hotel Amenities
First let me say that our company paid for our stay, so I don’t know how much the daily room rate is for a regular customer. I did look at their website and though I couldn’t get a price on the room we stayed in, the other rooms were very reasonably priced, especially considering all you get. Another plus is that when you reserve your room on the Internet, you get a 10% discount. Regardless of how you register, kids always stay free in the room with an adult, of course!
The most wonderful perk I associate with this hotel is the FREE Deluxe breakfast you get every morning. I’m not talking about stale doughnuts and dry cereal. We’re talking scrambled eggs, grits, bacon, sausage, toast, biscuits with sausage gravy, waffles, doughnuts, several kinds of dry cereal, oatmeal, coffee, chocolate and regular milk, and orange juice. It really is wonderful, but getting near it on a weekend was nearly impossible! During the week it was easy to find a seat and enjoy your breakfast at a leisurely pace! While we are on the subject of food, I will mention this: each night the staff baked cookies and handed them out to guests. I don’t know when I’ve felt so taken care of!
The hotel also has a nice clean swimming pool that my family made use of several times since we our stay was through the month of July and into August. There is no lifeguard on duty, so watch the little ones carefully! Parking is plentiful and well lit.
If you are planning your vacation, check Comfort Inn Suites first, especially if you are traveling with children. The website is www.comfortinn.com. You won’t want to go back home!
