Pros: Great imporvement in picture; inexpensive.
Cons: Doesn't work without a High Def. television; optical cable "sold seperatly".
The Bottom Line: Another great addition to the XBOX console. Should have been included with the console, but it's not, so this is another high quality investment from Microsoft.

| supahonda's Full Review: Microsoft XBox High Definition AV Pack |
DisclaimerThe High Definition AV Pack only imporves video quality in HIGH DEFINITION TVS! If you do not have a High Definition capable TV set, DO NOT buy this!
When I first bought by XBOX console, I came home with the console, 2 games (Halo & NHL2002), and extra controller, the DVD Playback kit and the High Definition AV Pack. So far, all of these peripherals have been amazing investments and I am extremely impressed with Microsoft.
Gone are the days of consoles coming with two controllers, all the cables necessary for a hookup and even a game (RIP NES!). Although the DVD Kit and the High Definition kit should have been included with the console, I have found both of them to be amazing investments that have affected my everyday moving watching and gaming.
First of all, the High Definition AV Pack from Microsoft takes your normal gaming habits, and multiply's the fun by 10 times! I have a Sony XBR40036, which is a high definition set and I have my XBOX console hooked up to it. Before I hooked up the HD Pack, I thought the graphics and visuals on DVDs were excellent, but once I plugged it in, I was blown away. I was treated to greatly improved graphics/visuals and 5.1 Dolby sound. I was impressed.
The set up for the High Definition Pack is fairly easy. All you basically do is plug all the jacks into the back of your TV. They are all color coded, so unless you have some sort of problem, this should come easy. The HD Pack comes with 6 jacks on a fairly large rectangular box, which include 3 jacks for component video, 2 for audio and one optical audio jack. Although the HD Pack doesn't come with an optical cable, I had one laying around so I used that. I highly recommend getting an optical cable, as you WILL notice a difference in the audio quality.
After you do this, go into the menu in the XBOX and change all your settings for 5.1 audio because of the new cables. Don't worry, the XBOX automatically recognizes the best resolution coming from the new cables you installed.
Overall, this is another great investment from Microsoft and a great way to fully utilize the XBOX's capabilities. Don't buy it if you don't have a High Definition TV!!!!!!!
