Puckmugger's Sports Write-Off!

Jul 29 '05

The Bottom Line Puckmugger's Sports Write-Off.. Sports nuts will have a lot of fun doing this!

1. What are your favorite sports to watch on television?
Being from Canada I've always been a hockey nut, but I also love watching NFL football. I am a huge Maple Leafs fan and a huge Denver Bronco fan.

2. How often do you watch sports on television?
Watching sports consumes much of my time actually. I am a very competitive person and I am involved in fantasy teams and football pools. It's part of my life that I enjoy completely. I am so thankful for sports.

3. What are your favorite sports to watch live? Hockey, football, tennis, baseball

4. How many live sporting events do you typically attend annually? I have season tickets to see the Chiefs play but I hate the Chiefs, but I love to go and boo them! I love it when the Broncos come to town. I go to as many pro-hockey games as I can, usually in Phoenix, Toronto, Detroit or St. Louis. I usually go to about 10 KC Royals games per summer.

5. What organized team sports have you ever participated in previously?
I played basketball all through my highschool years and I played for University as well. I played volleyball every year in highschool. I also played broomball (which may be a Canadian thing) and I played badminton at the All-Ontario level. I actually tried out for the 1992 Olympic badminton team, mixed doubles. We missed the cut by two. I played softball and of course, I played hockey and skated since I was 2 years old.

6. What organized individual sports have you participated in previously?
That would be tennis and badminton.

7. What pick-up sports have you participated in previously? Hockey, road hockey, basketball, baseball...Gosh it seems as though my entire life revolved around sports.

8. What sports or outdoor activities do you currently participate in? Tennis, backpacking, camping, swimming, basketball and volleyball.

9. How often? I play tennis about 4 times a week, I swim every day in my own pool, I skate every weekend in the winter and I coach my son's basketball team. I play volleyball with work people every Thursday night, and I shoot hoops as much as possible.

10. Is there any sport that you wish you could participate in now? I really wish I could play badminton competitively and seriously around the Kansas City area. I've met no one who knows how to play.

11. What’s keeping you from doing it? I guess, again, the fact that no one around here knows how to play and I don't even know of an indoor court in this area.

12. If your fairy godmother was going to give you all the skill and a job in pro sports, what sport would you play? I'd love to be a super competitive tennis player.

13. What team and position (if relevant)? Women's Singles...and I'd win the Wimbledon.

14. What beer would you promote as a sports celebrity? Labatt 50. The best Canadian ale you'd ever drink.

15. What brand would you promote?
Hmmm... Well, for badminton racquets I'd promote Black Knight. I'd do a commercial for Nike anytime. ;)

16. Do you have any sports heroes? Who are they and why are they your heros?
Several.
Bryan Trottier formerly of the New York Islanders, one of the best players in the game.
Dougie Gilmore formerly of the Toronto Maple Leafs, a legend in Toronto.
John Elway of the Denver Broncos, the classiest, strongest Quarterback to ever play the game of football.
Wendel Clarke formerly of the Toronto Maple Leafs, the toughest player I've ever seen.
Mike Bossy formerly of the New York Islanders, paired with Bryan Trottier and Billy Smith for goalie..unbeatable forward line.
Curtis Joseph or 'CUJO' when he played for the Maple Leafs, his goaltending is legendary.
Mario Lemiuex of the Pittsburgh Penguins, who overcame cancer to come back and play hockey.
Joe Carter formerly of the Toronto Blue Jays, that winning hit for the second-in-a-row World Series is classic.
Isiah Thomas formerly of the Detroit Pistons, a class act all the way. I met him and several other Pistons.
Curly Neal from the Harlem Globetrotters who coached my entire team for a summer in Northern Ontario.

Too many others to mention.

17. If you could invent a new sport, no matter how absurd, what would it be? Mini-Tennis. You only play on half the court. It would teach people to the tricky and soft net-shots. I actually do this with one of my friends.
