G.E. Chrome Electric Kettle: Why pay more?

Pros: Boils water quickly, good handle, stable, great value for the money.
Cons: None.
The Bottom Line: Best bang for the buck: metal, quick, does everything as well as or better than kettles costing twice as much.

Great Kettle. We use it every day, sometimes multiple times a day. We had a problem with the first one we purchased after nine months or so - it started to leak a little around the base. We had purchased it from Wal-Mart. We called GE to ask about how to get a warranty repair, and GE told us just to take it to Wal-Mart and exchange it - we had no receipt, but had no problem exchanging it for a brand new one.
As far as the leaking is concerned, it appears that the problem is related to leaving water in the kettle for long periods - like overnight, every night. I have read elsewhere that if you dump out any unused water after use, the leaking should be a non-issue.
We also had an issue after a while where the water level was no longer indicated in the window. Once again we called GE, and they told us to clean the kettle by placing some distilled vinegar in the kettle, turning the kettle on, then leaving the vinegar standing for a while afterward (just like you would clean a coffee maker). That worked like a charm.
As far as comments that the kettle is difficult to clean, unless you have small hands, it is unlikely that you will be able to get your hand inside the kettle to scrub it, but if the above vinegar cleaning isn't adequate, we have found that a bottle scrubbing wand works fairly well.
We considered purchasing a more expensive kettle, but from what we read on the Internet, most of the more expensive kettles don't last any longer or have any fewer issues, so why spend the extra money?
