Many thanks to the category lead, Symbiosis, for adding this product to the database.
While I have had one wireless mike for years, I made the decision to go to a second one during the summer of 2005. I did so because I enjoyed the freedom of not being tied to a mike stand on BOTH the instruments I perform on regularly, the tenor and soprano saxes.
For a number of reasons, detailed in my review of the second wireless mike, the AMT Roam 1 wireless mike, I needed some sort of transport system for the two mikes, the single receiver, the mike cord, batteries, etc. I perform within driving distance so I was looking for something protective, not too large, not too heavy, which would hold everything I needed.
I saw this on Ebay for under $30 with shipping included. The best online store prices were a little higher. I saw that it was supposed to hold two systems, so I figured my 1 transmitter and 2 mikes would be no problem. Once I received it, it was clear that this would do exactly what I needed.
Its fairly small (18x6x9) and light (4 pounds, without mikes). It has two 8.5 mike drops, which I do not use, and 2 more rectangular transmitter drops, which fit my two wireless mikes. Thats because the sax mikes clip on to the bell and have to be very flexible above the clip so that each can be placed for optimal sound. There is a larger drop in the middle, which is where I put the receiver and power supply (the mikes transmit to the receiver, which is then connected by a mike cord to the mixer). There is also room in that component for the mike cord and the manual for the receiver.
The remainder of the inside is taken up by dense protective foam. Its closed with a zipper.
The outside has two pockets: a larger one, about an inch deep and 6 x 12, which I use for batteries, and a smaller recessed pocket on its top, which is covered by mesh. I dont use it, but you could fit batteries or other things in there and they would be noticeable.
Each of the pockets is closed by a heavy duty black zipper, which has colorful short cords through them, serving as a handle and a means of identifying where the zippers are and whether they are closed.
There is a very sturdy handle on the top, with light padding and heavy stitching securing it to the top. It also comes with a shoulder strap that is attached by sturdy clips and hardware to sturdy D-rings.
These are built to last, which is why Gator provides a lifetime replacement/repair warranty to the first owner, which basically covers ANYTHING short of abuse or an Act of God.
Since Ive had it, Ive used it on every gig where I use both instruments and wireless mikes. Its been great. The gear I need for the mikes is in a safe, light, well-organized, easily identified case. This was exactly what I needed. 5 stars are not enough.
If you need a case for 2 mikes, this would do the job. It would be OK for flights, too, as it is small enough to carry on.
The better online stores are showing this at $33, although it's list price is over $50. You might be able to find a better price on Ebay.
Thanks for reading. God bless!
