| mjtriplett's Full Review: Sterilite 15 Quart Latch Storage Box |
I don't have a lot of extra storage space in my house, so when I put things in storage, they have to be organized so that they don't take up more space than necessary and so that I can easily find them again. For most of my storage needs, I use varying sizes of the Sterilite Latch Storage Boxes. I have a bunch of these 15 Quart sized boxes spread out over each closet in my house.
Description
The Sterilite 15 Quart Latch Storage Box is a clear plastic tote with a white plastic lid. The lid secures firmly onto the tote by snapping the two blue side latches into place. To remove the lid, simply pull the latches back and down. The 15 quart box measures 17 1/4L x 11 7/8W x 6 5/8H. I bought mine at Target for $5.79 each.
Use of the box
This box can be used for pretty much any storage need that you have. I have quite a few and I use them for varying storage purposes: scrapbooking supplies, extra copies of pictures and negatives, seasonal home decor, candles, extension cords, and even one with all the user manuals for our electronics, appliances and baby products. And these are just the few that I have stacked in the closet in my office.
I love the fact that the boxes are clear so that I don't have to open them up to see what is in them, therefore allowing them to actually stay organized longer. I also love that I can jam-pack them full because even if the top is almost spilling over, the latches will secure it tightly to the tote, unlike those boxes where the top constantly pops off.
The lids have a tight fit even when the totes are packed full, and I've never had a problem with any substances (or creatures) getting into any of the boxes, even the ones we store in the garage. Another plus is that the boxes are of equal width at the top and bottom. Some storage boxes are wider at the bottom, which makes for a frustrating job in packing them well, but these are nice and uniform. (yes, I'm this anal)
Sterilite boxes are very durable and we've never experienced any cracking, denting or discoloration, even in the ones we've left in the garage over the years. They hold up well in the cold Minnesota winters.
The one thing that I would like to see is the ability to better stack these boxes side by side. They do stack well on top of each other, but the lids stick out a little on the sides, so there is about 2-3 inches of wasted space when they are stacked next to each other.
Overall, these are the only storage boxes I'll use because of the tight lids and the latch system. I got tired of sitting on other storage containers to get everything to stay in only to find that the top pops off once I get it on the top shelf. With these, I've never had to worry about it.
