The Ten Best Movies Of The Seventies / Featuring De Niro And Pacino

The Bottom Line The seventies produced some engrossing, exceptional dramas, and more. Good enough to rent and watch over and over again.
I have to go predominately with dramas for this decade. Starting with one of the best films ever made. "The Godfather". Very well done, realistic, whether it was the violence or the story line. Exceptional cast (Pacino, Caan, and more). Brando especially memorable.
"The Deer Hunter" (De Niro, Walken, Streep etc.) was not just another movie about Vietnam. It gave us characters we got to know before and after the war, and how it changed their lives forever.
Jack Nicholson and Danny Devito were very convincing in "One Flew Over The Cuckcoo's Nest". (As was the part of Nurse Fletcher.) Probably one of the most realistic goings on in a mental hospital ever on film.
"Midnight Express" was the true story of a man imprisoned in a foreign country for attempting to carry out drugs. The severe and cruel treatment of him was unthinkable. Amazingly, he escaped and returned to the United States on his own. Brad Davis was outstanding.
Ah yes, are you feeling lucky? Well, the seventies gave us "Dirty Harry". And Clint Eastwood gave us one helluva cop, and a decent action movie.
"Taxi Driver" provided a good drama (De Niro, Jodie Foster etc.), a well known repeated line, "Are you talking to me?", and a powerful if not surprising violent ending.
"Dog Day Afternoon" was another powerful drama (Pacino) with it's share of violence. Most of which took place inside a bank. "Attica! Attica!"
A sci-fi epic hit the screen and gave us Luke Skywalker, Hans Solo, and so much more with the arrival of "Star Wars". Good original story, great characters, and years later, a remake.
And a little girl scared me so badly, that I could not sleep in my own bed , after I saw her (Linda Blair) in this movie. "The Exorcist". Even the music was scary. Taken from a book, based upon an actual event.
One of my favorite, no, MY FAVORITE, rock opera, "The Rocky Horror Picture Show". Tim Curry leading an exceptionally talented cast. And great songs, "The Time Warp" etc. and Meatloaf. A cult classic. Shown all over the country around Halloween, and acted out by audience members in full costume.
That concludes my top ten list, however, I have just a few additional worth mentioning films. Mel Brook's "Blazing Saddles", "Monty Python And The Holy Grail" and Steve Martin as "The Jerk".
