Re: New product for acne - Frutels (Reply to this comment)
by rainbowbryt
I bought a whole month supply of Frutels before I realized they're really just B Vitamins. You can see the ingredients and amounts (which the Frutels site doesn't tell you) at http://hubpages.com/hub/Frutels. Do yourself a favor, don't fall for it like I did. Buy a B Complex Supplement instead.

Some acne scars, like the red marks, go away eventually. If it's the deep scars (ice pick shaped ones for instance) those are permanent.

Frutels get rid of acne internally (Reply to this comment)
by reallymisskk
The reason I created Frutels (www.frutels.com) is because acne is an internal problem, not external, resulting from a temporary disequilibrium in the body. Frutels supports your internal systems and is not an external, and therefore merely palliatie solution. No drugs, no prescriptions, no harsh chemicals.

Dove for Acne??? (Reply to this comment)
by dnelli
First of all, if you have acne you should not rub your face harshly. Wash your face at night with an oil free soap and not dove which can clog your pors. Then dab on pure tea tree oil with a cotton qtip and becareful not to reinsert the used side in the bottle. Then cover it with a bandaid. In the morning wash your face again gently and pat dry. Use tepid water only. Then reapply the tea tree oil on the acne areas. If you have a swollen zit apply ice first to reduce the swelling. If you have a swollen zit double blast at night by using the Mary Kay acne treatment gel and then applying the tea tree oil. Your pimples will dry in a few days. I use this for my son's acne and it works. Try it. Please check out my website www.marykay.com/dnf to purchase the acne and the oil free cleanser.

New product for acne - Frutels (Reply to this comment)
by reallymisskk
I developed acne as an adult, and because I was trained scientist, I worked very hard to find something which works. Frutels (www.frutels.com) is a vitamin and mineral gummy which is easy to take -tastes either a little mediciney or like Campari, depending on your tastebuds, and we have had an 86% positive result in our test trials. Pretty amazing. I developed it because the formulation worked for me and I thought it would help others.

this is not a cure, but it helps- (Reply to this comment)

Your solution is misguided. Isopropyl Alcohol (rubbing alcohol) will only exacerbate most cases of acne, because it inflames the skin.

Regarding soap, I recommend something without moisturizers that is gentle and washes off easily. Neutragena acne-prone skin soap is good, as well as Kirk’s Castile.

The best solution is to mix 10% benzoyl peroxide gel (not cream) with two teaspoons of powdered sulphur. Break up the clumps in the powder before you mix it into the gel. I mixed it in a clear film container, but any small container will do. The sulphur increases the molecular integrity of the oxygen in the benzoyl peroxide, which, in turn, improves the efficiency of the benzoyl peroxide in killing acnegenic bacteria in your pores. It also causes flaking of the skin. I recommend using a very small amount of this mixture, because it is likely to burn your skin, especially if you have sensitive skin. However, it is very effective. Only apply after you’ve washed your face, and never apply near the eyes or on the lips. If you will be exposed to sunlight for extended periods, wear a non-acnegenic, non-comedogenic sunblock.

I used to try to use rubbing alcohol but I think it is too harsh. I think if you buy products appropriate for your skin needs (such as astringent), you do not need rubbing alcohol

Dove may be a start... (Reply to this comment)
by dollarvoter
My old dermatologist recommended Dove because it would not dry my skin as other soaps might. However, I can vouch that dry skin is not necessarily clear skin.
Also, it's not clear in the article whether you actually have problems with acne or just have a pimple now and then. It would be more helpful to know what kind of skin type you started with and what it's like now.

I'm glad that worked for you..

But for me, this should be titled "What not to do to treat acne."

Many need more than Dove (Reply to this comment)
by luv_sunshine
I am glad that Dove soap was all that you needed. However, my teens tried DOVE soap and it didn't do a thing for them. They needed prescription drugs. Many will say that one should not take drugs for years to treat acne. However, the drugs were worth it for my children since their self esteem dramatically improved when they got the acne taken care of.

You're oversimplifying acne (Reply to this comment)

I agree that Dove "soap" is great for many skin conditions like acne and eczema. However, FYI Dove is really a detergent and not a soap, which helps to explain why it is one of the least irritating washes on your face and skin. Pure soaps like Ivory and Lava can be murder to your skin.

If Dove soap worked for you, that's great. You have mild acne. Unfortunately, there are a large percentage of people with acne where Dove alone will not do the job.

Salicylic acid is sometimes recommended but has shown little effectiveness. You find 1.5% to 3% salicylic acid in many over the counter acne treatments. Most of these OTC treatments also contain large amounts of isopropryl alcohol (which can dry the skin too far).

Moderate to severe cases of acne are often helped by retinoic acid (which has unpleasant side effects) or antibiotics like tetracycline and doxycycline. You should see a Dermatologist before taking any of these medications!

If the acne has caused scarring on the skin... then treatment is only to prevent and control acne. The scar are unfortunately permanent.

Alcohol? (Reply to this comment)
by LynnSchneider
I dunno...alcohol could dry out your skin too much, resulting in over-active oil glands on your face.

Personally, when I was in my early 20s and had a horrible case of acne, tetrocycline, along with special creams from my doctor, and oil-free cosmetics, cleared it up.

But I'm glad that Dove worked for you! I hope it continues to work!
