| Donnie013's Full Review: Tide Coldwater |
When I became a single mom, money became tight. Very tight! It was at the same time, our county in New York decided to ban the use of laundry detergent saying it was NOT biodegradable. But, Im a bit ahead of myself so let me backtrack just a bit.
Being a single mom forced me to rearrange my way of doing many things laundry included. How I loved to wash my whites in steaming hot water, lots of detergent and bleach to get that snowy-white appearance. Wasteful? Maybe, but my clothes were clean!
A friend of mine told me she used nothing but cold water, which saved her a lot of money. I was hesitant wondering how cold water could not just clean clothes but remove the germs and bacteria. But, to save money, I was willing to give it a shot.
Once I saw that the clothes were getting clean (okay, so maybe not AS clean, but still, clean), I decided to use cold water. It was then, our county played that cruel trick on the homeowners of Long Island.
Did you know that back then, powdered soap didnt break up in cold water? It kind of coagulated. Formed big blocks and stuck to clothes! I was horrified. How on earth was I going to get my sons clothes (and mine) clean now? Ah! Phone call to my friend again. Since the nearest county was only a 15-minute drive away and they didnt ban the use of detergents, she did her shopping there and I guess I dont have to tell you what she brought home. And yes, I followed her example. One year later, our county realized their mistake and repealed their ban.
Now, youre wondering what all this has to do with anything. I told you all that to emphasize my desire to use cold water for my laundry. Even after all these years, I still use cold water. I raised my sons to use cold water and now their wives do the same. But, in all the time that has passed, we never had a detergent designed to use specifically in cold water. We just had to take our chances that the detergents we used would work as well in cold as they did in hot.
Recently, PROCTER & GAMBLE realized the necessity of such a product and developed TIDE COLDWATER. What a treat to use such an awesome product. Not only does using the cold water SAVE MONEY but this stuff REALLY CLEANS!
Washing in cold water not only saves money but KEEPS CLOTHES FROM FADING because of hot water. They dont get that washed-out look. The whites are truly white and the blacks are deep and dark and the colors bright and sharp. Now, thats a good thing!
Not sure how much detergent to use? THE CAP IS THE MEASURING CUP. Just follow the directions on the back label for your exact amount of detergent to add.
COLDWATER TIDE is extremely safe to use. First of all, IT IS BIODEGRADABLE. Its completely PLANET FRIENDLY. Secondly, the ingredients (biodegradable surfactants and enzymes) WONT CAUSE PERMANENT BODILY DAMAGE. Sure if you ingest it, medical attention is needed but a large glassful of water should get you right back on track. Like any other soap, if you get it in your eyes, flush with cool water to remove the stinging sensations. You should follow up with a doctors evaluation. (If youre still concerned about the chemicals used in TIDE, you can check on the MSDS website for all the information on TIDE).
My first project was to wash my delicate colored items. NOT ONLY did they come out clean but they smelled great. Okay, so they werent that soiled but they look good. Next, I tried the whites. Again, not too soiled so I was sure theyd look good. They did! And I just love how they remove the odors left by the body (Im talking about undies, here!). (blush, blush!!) Okay, so far, so good. Now for the big challenge
.. hubbys work clothes. While he is retired, he still works around the house and in the yard and gets - - well, lets just say, his clothes leave a lot to be desired and are a detergents nightmare.
I began filling up the washer and added the right amount of TIDE COLDWATER. As the drum began to twist and turn, I added the beyond-imagination-dirty clothes and closed the lid. I didnt even want to check the clothes out until they were dried and ready to fold. You know what? THEY WERE CLEAN!! Boy, was I impressed!! Finally a detergent that COMPLETELY CLEANS IN COLD WATER!!
While I knew other detergents clean well in cold water, Tide Coldwater has them beat by a mile! And yes, should you want to use warm water (although I cant imagine why), Tide Coldwater will work just as well. Buy why bother? Using the warm (or hot) water costs more money and also puts wear and tear on your hot water heater. Why bother going through all that when one detergent will clean flawlessly in cold water?
From now on, my one and only detergent is TIDE COLDWATER.
