Fast delivery, extensive selection, clear and concise web site, generous credit terms and the ability to decline those monthly selections online make Doubleday Book Club a sound investment and reliable internet shopping experience.
I signed on to this service through a MyPoints offer, fully expecting to opt out as soon as my purchase requirements were fulfilled. Right away I was pleasantly surprised with the web site itself. It has a clean, easy to read appearance and is easy to navigate. The My Account section shows you clearly what your purchase requirements are, how much of the obligation you have fulfilled, and your balance. There is also a simple and fast Pay Online option available, which makes keeping up with your balance a breeze.
The second thing that impressed me was the variety of books available to club members. Book clubs I have joined in the past have had a quite limited selection, however; they've come a long way baby! also impressive is how quickly a book is available for purchase after publication. No more waiting for a book to loose it's popularity before your book club gets it - now it's available right when you want to read it.
The third thing that impressed me with this shopping experience was the accessibility of their customer service department. I received one damaged book (very rare - their packaging is superb and it was entirely a shipping service error) and had no trouble contacting them about it and arranging a fast replacement. They even paid to ship the damaged book back!
All in all I'd have to say my experience with DoubleDay was superb. What the membership entails: a first-time purchase of 5 books for 99 cents, with the option to add a free book plus a future purchase guarantee. You will incur a S/H charge of $12.95 on top of the 99 cent purchase. You then must buy 4 more books over two years. With their handy free "book review" style magazine, 60% or more off regular pricing, deep bargain pricing on close out books each month, a monthly catalog offering and web page I was easily able to find books for myself and others and exceed the membership requirement. They have a generous 20 day return policy on opened books, and if you forget to respond to your monthly selection online you can return it unopened anytime - no questions asked. As far as I know they have an easy cancellation policy on membership once your agreement is fulfilled, however; as I don't wish to cancel I have not experienced that first hand.
