| ebeisher's Full Review: Hotel Beaubourg Paris |
Christine is the girl who works at the front desk. She works full time, and basically is the only person you will see during the day.
It is a very small hotel - 25 rooms or so, so it is her and the maid during the day.
The location and cleanliness were the two big things this hotel had going for it. Located at Georges Pompideau, it is walking distance to the Notre Dame, and from there not a too big jaunt to the Musee Louvre.
The beds are not very comfortable. We got what supposedly was a double, and it was two uncomfortable singles pushed together. The beds took up the entire room. The rooms are very small. Also, some rooms had mini-refrigerators, some did not. Rooms had televisions with about 5 channels. The bathrooms were decent - those hand-held showers.
The elevators kept breaking down. They are the smallest things we had ever seen. You could either fit two people, or two pieces of luggage - not both at the same time. A lot of stairs were required since the elevators were so slow. DO NOT GO HERE IF YOU ARE NOT IN DECENT SHAPE. You will not be on the ground floor, and you might be on a 4th or 5th floor.
Try the Italian place next door. It was yummy. All the local restaurants do not open until 7pm, though.
We found out from Christine when we were leaving that the hotel was very popular with the homosexual crowds, if it matters at all to you.
Be careful, you would expect a hotel like this to include breakfast. We assumed wrongly our morning croissants were free and they were costing 8 euros each morning.
Also, don't go here if you are carrying luggage from the metro. You will have to change trains and carry your luggage at least 1000 yards/meters when you switch trains at Chatelet des halles.
