| LaFeet's Full Review: Brinkmann Turkey Fryer Kit 815-3786-0 |
Having finally convince the misses we needed one of these contraptions, I went about searching for one that I thought could last more than one rotation of the seasons (Hot - Really Hot - Wet - Really Cold).
Fortunately I managed to find the Brinkman model on sale for the same price as the lowly store brand...and I saved a bundle.
I returned home and quickly set about to assembling my new toy.... I was like the kids on Christmas morn....
My kit came with all the needed nuts, bolts, washers and two wrenches to aid in assembling. The instructions (I did read them - after I realized I had extra bolts) were simple (let's face it - this is a glorified plant stand) and easy to follow. And within ten minutes I proudly displayed my new cooking appliance to the family.
Brinkman includes the how to and what to list of standard cooking tips {so many minutes at this temp for this size bird yada yada yada}. Better yet, they have an excellent listing of recipes on their website.
The aluminum pot is plenty large to hold all but the Godzilla turkeys from the radioactive isles owned by the French.
And I was impressed with the thickness of the metal as well, good sturdy stock - pot. And the lid doubles well enough as a buckler, capable of stopping a 357 magnum bullet (kids, don't try this at home, leave it to the professional drunkards)
Included were the standard turkey rack and hanger tools, as well as a flavor injector, thermometer and a strainer.
After a solid rinsing, and connecting (correctly that is) the propane tank, we found ourselves wondering what to cook. The turkey will take another 24 to 48 hours to thaw, and I was not going to deep fry my Angus filets.....
So we opened the bag of raw peanuts, poured in several gallons of water, dumped five pounds of salt in and went to town. After five minutes the water was boiling with enough force to "pop" the lid. We were ready for some Goobers.
Having grown up in the South, fresh boiled peanuts are a basic staple, just like raw oysters and bay shrimp.
It was hard enough keeping the kids away, in fact one did bump into the pot when I had my back turned. the heavy frame (and the nearly 50 pounds of water and peanuts) kept it from tipping. I now have a short fence erected around Dad's deep fry arena.
We have turned out just about everything you can think of in this cooker, and it is simple to use and easy to clean.
So where is the down side??? There "aint" none. The nice thing about these "Turkey Fryers" is that the burner can be used for nearly anything. We have a pot of gumbo on right now, enough to feed all 50 people that RSVP'd, and a few more that stumble in... the smell always draws these Okies in.
Get frying... it taste good and it's quick.
