The best way to buy an affordable, yet useful CD Burner

Jun 07 '00

I recently purchased a new CD-RW drive. My burner is working great, and it is used all the time. I want to discuss the types of burners to buy, and the price range to look into.
THe CD-RW drive that I purchased was made by Creative Labs. It was purchased about 8 months ago. I am very satisfied. Including shipping and handling, I paid only 184 $, very reasonable. The speed of my burner is 4 X2 X24, average, but fast. When considering buying a burner, look at the speed first. Make sure that the write speed is at least 4, the rewrite speed at least 2, and the read speed at least 24. Currently, the best CD-RW drives are made by Sony and HP. These companies have a leading edge. Nowadays, the speed of CD-RW drives has increased. However, dont be fooled by the speed propaganda, it is not that important. My speed has worked fine for me, and many of my friends. Dont worry that much about speed as long as it is average. Spend no more that 200$ and dont buy from stores, buy from the internet, this gives you a much better price. In summary, look for a burner with a 4 X 2 X 24 speed and spend no more that 200$
